Gender Identities
Agender
A term used to describe one who identifies as not having a gender.
Androgynous
A term used to describe a person who possess characteristics of both the male and female genders.
Bigender
A term to describe a person who identifies with both the male and female genders.
Binary
A term used to describe the belief that there are only two genders, male and female.
Cisgender
A term used to describe people whose gender identity aligns with the sex they were assigned at birth.
Demigender
A term used to describe a person who identifies with certain elements of one gender, varying in intensity depending on the person. Common subcategories include demigirl and demiboy.
Female
A term to describe one of the two binary sexes.
FTM
A person who has undergone the medical transition from female to male.
Gender Fluid
A term referring to a person who does not identify with any fixed gender.
Gender Flux
A term used to describe a person whose gender identity fluctuates in intensity.
Intergender
A term used to describe a person whose gender identity is in the middle of the binary genders or contains elements of both the male and female gender identities.
Intersex
A term to describe those who are born with physical sex markers that are not clearly male or female.
Male
A term to describe one of the two binary sexes.
MTF
A person who has undergone the medical transition from male to female.
Neutrois
A person who identifies as having a neutral gender unassociated with the male and female genders.
Nonbinary
Also referred to as gender queer, an umbrella term used to describe any person who does not identify as male or female.
Pangender
A term used to describe a person who identifies as all genders.
Polygender
A term used to refer to those who experience multiple gender identities at once.
Third Gender
A term used to describe a person who does not identify as male or female.
Transgender
An often misconceived umbrella term that refers to people whose gender identities do not match the sex they were assigned at birth.
Transsexual
A term used to describe a person who identifies emotionally or psychologically with the gender opposite to the sex they were assigned at birth.
Two Spirit
An umbrella term used mainly by the Native American LGBTQ+ community to describe people who identify as nonbinary.
